COVID-19 Update

Mar 20, 2020 – Dr. Paul

After careful consideration of the current viral pandemic I decided to consult with infectious disease experts and local colleagues. I also looked closely at the CDC, AAP, WHO and Florida Dept. of Health guidelines. As a result, I decided that, for the safety of my patients, my staff and myself, to make the following changes to our scheduling and office visit protocols. I hope you understand and have patience with these changes.

In the coming weeks we will reschedule ALL afternoon well visits for a new morning appointment. We will also plan to do followup visits, vaccine appointments and NONINFECTIOUS visits in the mornings. Our priority for the morning well visits in the coming weeks will be newborn-24 months, ie when critical vaccines are needed. Older well visits will be postponed until 2-3 months later. Some well visits over age 2 can be done virtually, using doxy.me/bocachild (see bocachild.com homepage.)

All sick visits will be scheduled in the afternoon with mild cases early in the afternoon and fever/cough/respiratory cases later in the afternoon. Some of the later afternoon visits will be seen at your car in the parking lot. Certain circumstances may require me to examine your child with protective equipment, that is goggles, mask, gloves and gown. Please help me make your child comfortable with this so it is not too alarming.

I will continue to do virtual visits time permitting throughout the day, as the request for this has increased. I will need to defer home visits for the time being. We will also be answering emails throughout the day including lunchtime, as needed. Please remember this is NOT for urgent matters.

We have been and will continue to do aggressive sanitation of surfaces within the office every day. Some of you have already noticed the absence of toys, books etc from the exam rooms and waiting room. Despite daily calls by us to the Health Dept, Labcorp and Quest Labs, we still have not received COVID19 collection kits, and so are not able to send test swabs out as of yet, but we hope to soon.

We ask that you please refrain from calling about testing for an asymptomatic child. This not recommended. Also please do not show up at our door without a phone call.

I know these are trying times. I believe within 2-3 months this will be, for the most part, behind us. We are here for you. Call or email us anytime. I am committed to taking care of my patients, as always.
