Revised Immunization Policy

Jan 29, 2015 – Dr. Paul

To Our Patients,

Over the past 10 years or so, our practice experienced a significant increase in parents requesting to delay or decline vaccinations. This has been the result of recent appearances and claims by both ordinary folks and celebrities claiming that vaccines harmed their child in some way. I believe it is also the result of the natural reaction of many parents to the tremendous increase in the number of vaccines and injections being recommended in recent years.

I found myself needing to spend an inordinate amount of time defending our use of vaccines at well-child check and on phone calls, finding myself on the defensive more often than not.

In response to this heightened demand on our time and energy, I developed a vaccine policy statement, which we ask parents to agree to when joining our practice. The response has been tremendous! I am gratified to say that in recent years I sense the pedulum of public opinion swinging back to greater acceptance and trust. This bodes well for the health of our little ones going forward. New parents clearly know where we stand, and our established patient families have expressed their appreciation for confirming past good vaccine choices they made. The statement also has been a tremendous time saver for all of us. Readers should feel free to reproduce and distribute the information in any way they please.

Sincerely,

Paul Christakis, MD, FAAP
